HPRSEF requires ISEF paperwork for all senior division students (
grades 9-12) only,
while junior division projects (
grades 6-8) are required to submit a written description of their project during the student/project registration.
Written description should be in the form of an abstract less than 300 words in length.
Please read the appropriate section and its instructions for successful participation at HPRSEF.
Failure to follow the directions and submit the appropriate forms and paperwork will result in projects inability to compete at HPRSEF and ISEF.
Senior division projects (grades 9-12)
Every project that wants to participate in HPRSEF is required to submit ISEF forms related to their project (teams submit together).
These forms should be submitted to us no later than our posted deadline.
Some projects, especially those involving human subjects, animal subjects, and/or biological or chemical agents may need to be pre-approved before experimentation.
Please complete ISEF Rules Wizard in order to find out what forms you are required to submit.
If your forms require SRC or IRB approval you will need to submit them before you begin your experimentation.
Failure to obtain prior approval will result in being unable to compete at HPRSEF and ISEF.
Please follow these general steps to submit your forms:
Step 1Complete the ISEF Rules Wizard by answering few questions about your project to the best of your ability.
Step 2After you complete the ISEF Rules Wizard you will be presented with a list of forms that are required for your project based on the answers you have provided.
Save each form to your computer in a location where you can easily find them.
Step 3Fill out all the required ISEF paperwork for your project. Don't forget to save as you go. Signatures are required for all submissions.
Step 4If your forms require SRC or IRB approval, you will need to obtain pre-approval before you begin your experimentation.
Only after you have received approval from our IRB and/or SRC may you begin your experiments.
Failure to obtain prior approval from all the appropriate committees will result in being unable to compete at HPRSEF and ISEF.
Step 5After you register for HPRSEF and receive a project number, search for your registration to upload a complete set of ISEF forms.
All projects and students in the senior division must submit all ISEF forms regardless of the fact if pre-approval was needed or not.
If submitting corrected forms is required, a SRC team member will guide you through that process via email.
Once your forms are successfully uploaded you will not be able to re-upload them.
If you have submitted incorrect forms, please contact us.
Please note the following guidelines when dealing with ISEF forms:
- ISEF forms are provided and need to be submitted in PDF file format.
If you are having difficulties opening or saving in this format, please make sure that you download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
Adobe Reader is a free program that can be downloaded directly from Adobe website.
- All ISEF forms submissions including pre-approval and final submissions must be done online. No mail-in forms will be accepted.
- A Research Plan must be submitted with your ISEF forms. See the ISEF forms for guidance on research plan format if needed.
- HPRSEF does require students to submit an abstract form.
We also recommend students complete an abstract and have 20 copies available by their project display for the various judges.
- Some forms require a signature. When submitting your ISEF paperwork online actual signatures are required.
Lab notebooks, any SRC approval forms (if applicable) and complete set of printed ISEF forms must be presented at your project table during the fair.
